Tips to Keep in Mind When Running a Fully Remote Business
Running a business remotely is hard — but it brings lower overheads, more flexible teams and access to clients worldwide. Based in Lithuania, we work with clients across the US, UK, France and beyond, and the time-zone difference has never been a real obstacle. Here’s what we learned.
Importance of communication
Nothing matters more than organised communication. Set consistent guidelines for how and when you work with clients and your team. Even a 10-hour time difference is manageable with flexibility — as our client Jesse Robinson noted, virtual communication is so good today that face-to-face rarely matters. Use separate channels: one for video calls, one for emergencies, one (usually email) for weekly recaps.
Planning is key
Create a roadmap, document each step, and follow it while leaving room to adapt. Our process: brainstorm the product, explore technologies, match the right talent, run weekly sprints with daily updates and a feedback loop, QA each shippable increment, then a final review and release on the client’s go-ahead.
The team and collaboration
Apply the same care to internal culture. High morale and genuine bonds — helped by tools like Slack and, when possible, in-person meetups — make problem-solving effortless. Collaboration is a characteristic of any healthy organisation: get everyone on the same page and the rest follows naturally.
